Daisy Fuentes Fashion Show backstage

I landed my new freelance gig at Regatta for the Daisy Fuentes line during fashion week. If you don't know who Daisy Fuents is ( most people don't) she use to be the host of MTV for latin America back in the 90's. Unbelievably she has had this fashion lin for ten years! I did not know that. I took a few random shots backstage before the show. Sorry the pictures ar so dark.

Fashion week Fall 2012/13...Richard Chai

My birthday and the first day of fashion week Fall 2012/13. My first show was Richard Chai. I was at the venue by 8:30. My and the rest of the crew I work with had to wait before we could go in because , according to one of my supervisors, Richard Chai had not paid from the last time they hired us and if we did not get paid first, then we would leave and the would have been a**ed out for dressers. My supervisor got a check and we went in to handle our business.

The designer arrived at about 9:00. A half an hour before the clothes arrived. This news left some of us shaking our heads. This is the first show of the day, how you not have the clothes here yet? They had to take all the clothes out, not time to steam much so a lot was wrinkled. The looks had to be numbered and shoes and accessories given out. In my opinion, the staff of Richard Chai should have pulled an all-nighter to get these things done. I pulled one of many all-nighters, working at Donna Karan back in 1997. I got to sleep after the show, lol!

Despite the chaos, everything went surprisingly well. 42 models, one look each so that helped a lot.Also, the shoes fit all the models! That really surprised me because the shoes are usually an issue for at least one model. They were cute shoes too, leather ankle boots, really cute. I liked some things, some other things, not so much, but the overall look was consistent and being menswear and womenswear together, it was cohesive.

Fashion week, letting go and moving on!

I had meant to post more this month, but my wifi has been very limited and I've had a series of personal issues come up that required most of my time and attention.

First off, Fashion week Fall 2011. I only worked one show, Jenny Packham. This was mostly an evening wear collection with a lot of intricate beading and chains.

This was the model I dressed. I forgot her name in the midst of the other sh*t that kept me from doing other shows. I'll get to that in a minute.

This was the model next to me that I helped, since the dress was delicate if not heavy from all the beading. I think they said it weighed 20 pounds or something like that!

I"ll post more pictures from this show later as the current internet connection is slow like dial-up and that is very aggravating when you are use to high speed.

Anyway, this is what happened that got my pretty much banned from most of the fashion shows I would usually work during fashion week. Last fall, I worked the Cynthia Steffe show and made a huge mistake that could not be corrected in time for the model to go out on the runway. She went out, but her top was on sideways! OOPS! AND she was supposed to have a bag that she would carry, that I didn't see by her changes. Andre Leon Tally(editor at large at Vogue magazine) came back stage so the Cynthia Steffe people were hyped about that, but I made that mistake. I was asked about it later that night by the lady who does the booking for the company that I freelance for and I told her briefly what happened. One mistake in fifteen years, but the owner must have been more pissed, but I didn't know just how pissed she was just yet.  I was taken off a show I have always done the day after the incident, but I didn't think much of it  UNTIL this past fashion week when I was never called to do any shows. When I did call to let them know I didn't have internet access so they would have to call me if they scheduled me for any shows, that's when I found out the owner was blocking me from working any shows, especially the shows she usually attends, which were most of the shows I usually worked each season. I was told if she saw me she would send me home. Ain't that some SH*T?!

This ...woman, has been holding on to something since last September instead of just firing me or telling me herself how pissed she was, she just blocks me from working. She did something similar about eight years ago when I requested something from her( a letter stating that I worked for her) that she refused to do for me and I hadn't even messed up anything back then, but you know what? I was blessed greatly despite her blocking. I kept repeating something I learned from my church, that she does not have my good. God has all of my good and I said that for this incident. I'm not going to beat myself up over something that was over five months ago and with each day I get further and further away from it. If she wants to hold on to it, live in that place...more power to her. I only regret not listening to my spirit when it told me to sit that fashion week out, but I needed the money. Like I needed the money this time, but I'm going to let it go. I'm moving on. I through with bullsh*t like this. I'm going to focus my energies on building my own business and being at fashion week because I'm presenting my fashion collection, not because I'm working for someone else.

I've had to do a lot of spiritual cleansing because I've attracted too many toxic people into my experience and  want to attract people who better represent what I want to experience and create in my life. I'll keep you posted on how it goes!

End of fashion week.

I forgot to write about my last show, L'Wren Scott which was yesterday because I was intent on getting my application into Parsons. They were doing an offer of waiving the application fee if you applied by Thursday the 18th. Imagine my surprise to click onto the link fo the offer and find that it had expired! I was very annoyed because I was applying in the alotted time frame. I wrote to the director of admissions and let him know that was some foul shit! After all that application nonsense I was just too tired to post anything, but L'Wren Scott was very nice from the garments I could see. I'll post the pictures from all the shows I went to to the corresponding posts later. I started this post late and I'm tired and now my computer is freezing up. Tomorrow, I'll definately post them!

Fashion week day six.

Eight shows down, one more to go! Today was Michael Kors one of the few shows during fashion week that has both mens and women's wear. And you know if there are men in the show, it is my preference to work with them andfor this hsow I did. My models were Terron and Stan. Poor stan pretty much dressed himself for all the assistance I gave him. I liked the fact that he knew how to style his look without any help so that all I had to do was tuck, zip and de-lent. He wasn't very talkative, but some of the other models around were which is usually the case with the guys.

As I was leaving this show, when it was over, I began to consider studying menswear when I go back to Parsons. I really do like men's wear and I would love to design clothes that my fantasy man would wear. I guess hat's the way  many fashion designers design, by thinking of what we would like to see people wearing. Sometimes it's just an outlet for being really creative, like haute couture. Couture is really, expensive, one of a kind, made-to-measure designs, usually one of kind. Couture is a fun creative outlet, but not very cost effective as not many people can afford couture. Thatis why so many deisgners have lower priced lines. There are more people who can drop  a few hundred buck on a clothing item than theree are who can drop a few thousand bucks on something. Fashion is fun and all, but clothes are not worth going into debt for!

I should be posting some of my sketches soon. While I was out today I bought some colored chalk pencils to experiment with different coloring techinques for my sketches and drawings. I'm also going to try my hand at water colors. I don't paint, but I don't see why I can't try it out. I the look of water colors and I like the fact that I can use water colored pencils which is easier on the wallet!
